Gutsy Abram
The Bible has some really neat heroes. Take for instance that guy Abram (later known as Abraham). He took off with his wife and nephew and an assorted crew of helpers and supplies from his hometown of Ur (in what is now southern Iraq) to travel around a huge uninhabitable desert and settle in a foreign land on the Mediterranean Sea, a country he probably knew nothing about and would most likely never return from. Talk about our guys that went to the moon! At least they knew, God willing, that they were coming back. Okay, so outer space is pretty far out, on the scale of destinations. Better make that outer Siberia. But think now: Abe didn't have a carefully-drawn-up travel plan. He didn't get to do a research study of the area. No prep for this gig! He just went because God told him to. That took a lot of guts, don't you think? Travel was dangerous in those times, and there was no sheriff nearby to rescue their party if they got assaulted and robbed. That's some kind of courage, to my mind.
I'm thinking something similar is going on today. Many of our friends, co-workers, and relatives have been forced by the recession, often with no notice, to changes jobs and often their careers, at times with a change of location and lowering of income. Psychologists tell us job loss is third on the list of major life traumas that a human being might have to face, right after death and divorce. Let's honor and respect the gutsy journey these friends and relatives of ours are living through. Go, ahead! Praise them for their courage! I will, too.
I'm praying God will be with them, wherever they go. If they put their trust in Him to lead their choices, the road ahead will be a good or better place. I know. I've been there.
Religiously yours,
Margaret
